About Us
‘Sounds and Words’ Speech and Language Consultancy is the business name used by me, Specialist Independent Speech and Language Therapist Rebecca Selley. I take your privacy very seriously and I am committed to protecting it. I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as a Data Controller. I do not share any personal information with any third parties. I will only share essential information with other health or education professionals as necessary to support you/your child, or by law (as detailed below).

My business website is provided by GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy provides me with an online platform that allows me to advertise my services to you. If you contact me via the website your data may be stored by GoDaddy.com’s data storage, databases and applications. The data is stored on secure servers behind a firewall. Appointments and Report Sharing
I use software called ‘WriteUpp’ to manage and store notes, write reports and to organise my diary. You can see their Privacy Policy via this link. https://www.writeupp.com/priva.... Writeupp stores information including your child’s name, your address, email, contact details, a record of your appointments, and any notes or reports that are produced. This is the only location in which I keep confidential information, and access to the site is password protected and cannot by viewed by other users. Through this system I will send you emails or SMS relating to your/your child’s appointments. If I send confidential reports these will be password protected.
Personal and Medical Information
I collect certain data from you to meet mandatory requirements regarding medical notes. For Speech and Language Therapy to be effective, it is essential for me to ask about, and record, information about your child’s development and medical history, and also any family history of Speech and Language difficulties. Only information relevant to my service will be recorded. In accordance with law, all records will be kept securely until your child is 25 years old. After this time all records relating to your child will be destroyed. I also collect data to assist in the administration of our business to provide you with an effective service. I would like to use your contact details to assist with the administration of your appointments/changes to scheduled appointments and/or reminders about appointments.
For the benefit of your child, I may talk to or email your child’s NHS Speech and Language Therapist, staff at their educational setting, their GP, or other health professionals if I think this would benefit your treatment. You are entitled to see this correspondence if requested.
Audio and Visual Recordings
Any recordings made of your child (such as photos, video or sound recordings) will be made only for the purpose of aiding your child’s treatment and they will not be shared with any other parties. Where possible recordings will be made using the parent/carer’s own device. Any recordings made using my own equipment will be deleted immediately following the appointment or within 24 hours if needed to complete an assessment. Occasionally, it can be helpful for Therapists to record themselves to aid service improvement. I will seek you permission in advance of this.
Subject Access Requests
You have the right to a copy of the information that I hold about your child, and you have the right to ask for your record to be amended if you believe that it is wrong. Please note that your right to be forgotten cannot override the legal requirements to keep medical notes for the mandatory periods. You can request a copy of any data held about you by submitting an Access Request by emailing me at Rebecca@soundsandwords.co.uk. I will provide access to your child’s records within 30 days of receipt of all necessary information. We take your privacy seriously and will take all reasonable steps to ensure the protection if your data.
